Why You Should Order Your driving Record

We get the question quite often of "Why should I order my Texas Driving Record?".   Your driving record includes your entire driving history, so verifying the accuracy is very important.

Your driving record can include:

  • The status of your driver license.
  • Any points accessed on your license.
  • If you've had any traffic accidents.
  • Traffic law violations, convictions and fines.
  • Public records of any DUI or DWI convictions.

Insurance companies are going to use this information as one of the major determining factors of your auto insurance rates.  Often times we find drivers who have inaccurate data on their driving record, negatively affecting their insurance rates.

Also, the state of Texas may asses surcharge fees when renewing your driver license, or may not allow you to renew at all if you have too many points.   We recommend you order your Texas driving record at least once per year to verify its accuracy, which could save you time, money and headaches.

Many Texas courts also require that you send a certified copy of your driving record to them if you elect to take a defensive driving or driving safety course.  Since you can only take defensive driving once per year in Texas to dismiss a ticket, the court will use your driving record to confirm that you have not taken defensive driving within that year.  Be sure that you are ordering the Certified Type 3A driving record, which is what most courts require.

Please keep in mind that it can take 1-3 months for defensive driving to show up on your driving record.
